Kaleidoscope
Airs on Netflix Hong Kong: Now Airing
The all-new compelling anthology series can be watched in any order and still make sense (as long as you don’t jump ahead to the finale!). “Kaleidoscope”, previously called “jigsaw,” unravels clue by clue leading to the big picture, or to one of the biggest heists shall we say. A team of masterful thieves attempt to crack a seemingly unbreakable vault for the biggest payday in history.

Copenhagen Cowboy
Airs on Netflix Hong Kong: Now Airing
This neon-drenched, Danish noir series follows Sui, who seeks justice and revenge after a lifetime of slavery. She traverses the ominous landscape of Copenhagen’s criminal netherworld where she comes face to face with her nemesis, Rakel. The two soon realise they’re not the only ones seeking vengeance, and there’s way more than what’s on the surface.

The Pale Blue Eye
Airs on Netflix Hong Kong: Friday, 6 January
Set in 1830 West Point, “The Pale Blue Eye” stars Christian Bale as Detective Augustus Landor when a cadet is found dead in cold blood. Tragedy soon turns to savagery when the morgue discovers the cadet’s heart had been skillfully carved from his chest. What follows are dark turns and twisted tales that Augustus wouldn’t have seen coming.

Dog Gone
Airs on Netflix Hong Kong: Friday, 13 January
A heart-warming tale (based on a true story) starring Rob Lowe, “Dog Gone” – as the name suggests – is indeed about a missing dog but it’s also much more. Tune in as this fractured family embark on a tough journey across the Appalachian trail to find their beloved lost dog as they mend their faults. Yes, you’ll probably need a box of tissues next to you for this one!

Jung_E
Airs on Netflix Hong Kong: Friday, 20 January
A Korean sci-fi thriller gets us just a little amped up! From the director of Train to Busan comes another masterpiece – “Jung_E” is set at a time when Earth becomes uninhabitable due to climate change, but humans do what they do best even in outer space, going head to head in wars. Yun Jung-yi is a legendary mercenary and military strategist with countless victories to her name but threat arises when the opposition tries to clone her brain to create the ultimate war machine.

Shahmaran
Airs on Netflix Hong Kong: Friday, 20 January
If you like mythologies, or rather, alternative takes on classics, this one’s for you. “Shahmaran” is a Turkish fantasy drama chronicling around the ancient myth of the same name. Traditionally half snake and half woman, this series features Sahsu (the human version of Shahmaran) who seeks to find and confront her estranged grandfather. But soon, she finds herself in the midst of a legend.

A good laugh never killed anybody! Add “You People” to your list for a fun, light watch. The movie stars and was co-written by Jonah Hill. Think along the lines of the movie “Why Him” but with Eddie Murphy as the headstrong father who needs convincing from Jonah Hill and all the cultural and generational differences added to the mix for extra laughs!

You may remember Diane Morgan from “Death to 2020” and “Death to 2021”. Well, she’s back with another mockumentary about human advancements. Going by Philomena Cunk (previously on “Cunk on Shakespeare“), Diane comically looks through humankind’s journey from prehistory to the present day, from all the inventions, landmarks and more.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover
Airs on Netflix Hong Kong: Now Airing
First privately published in 1928 in Italy, D. H. Lawrence’s “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” wasn’t openly published in the UK until 1960 — when it was the subject of a watershed obscenity trial. Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre directs this film adaptation, starring Emma Corrin (Diana in The Crown S4) as Connie, a married woman of wealth who begins secret trysts with the estate’s gamekeeper Oliver, played by Jack O’Connell (Skins, Godless, The North Water).

With a screenplay by Emma Donoghue based on her own novel of the same name (Donoghue’s also the author of Room and wrote the screenplay for the 2015 film adaptation!), The Wonder tells the tale of a young Irish girl whose family claim she has eaten nothing since her eleventh birthday — four months ago. Badru’s marriage plays out one way in front of others and a completely different way behind closed doors. Played by Alia Bhatt, the protagonist’s abusive husband is an alcoholic with no hopes of reforming, and so Badru and her mother take matters into their own hands in an admittedly bold but clumsy way. This upcoming dark comedy explores complex topics of domestic violence, without being too graphic for viewers to digest whilst highlighting this serious issue.

This upcoming fantasy, drama series is based on the DC comic of the same name written by Neil Gaiman. A perfect blend of modern myth and dark fantasy, The Sandman dates back to 1916, when Morpheus, the King of Dreams and one of the seven Endless (if you’ve been following the comic books, you’ll know!) is captured in an occult ritual and held captive for 104 years. Upon his escape, he sets out to restore his Kingdom. We’re in awe of the visuals — and if you have a big enough TV, you’ll be transported to this fantasy world.
